Activity to ignite children’s writing. Ideal for KS2 and LS KS3 children who find it hard to write interesting sentences. Start with a boring sentence and “trade” words for more interesting ones. Once all four words have been “traded”, the child is left with many more interesting words to use to write amazing sentences, which can be compared directly with the original. Could be used as a starter or booster activity.

A whole class game to practice vocabulary and/or spelling. Aimed at KS2 but could also be used with lower ability KS3 or SEN pupils. Pupils are divided into 2 teams and have to take turns to write a word on the board following the alphabetical list from A to Z. The first team to complete the list wins the points. Words required can be random, related to a particular topic or a phonic pattern, for example.
